Jim and I had a fun experience the other day...we got to pick an old
abandoned house! I know to some of you, that might not seem like a fun
thing to do, but it was a blast! We are both a really big fan of
American Pickers on the Discovery channel and we have always wanted to be able to go into a
place (not a flea market or auction) and have the OK to just dig and get
dirty and see what kind of treasures we could find.
If you haven't heard of this show click on the picture to check out their website!
The house we picked is up the road from where we live. It's been
abandoned ever since we moved in. We happened to be driving by and the
new owner was getting ready to do some work in the yard. He is also a
neighbor so we stopped to chat and see what was up with the house. He
said that he was trying to get the yard up to city code and that they
were going to be tearing down the house soon. I explained to him what
we do and asked if we could look around and see if there was anything we
would be interested in buying out of the house before they tore it
down. He agreed, so we went to picking! He did say that his wife was
also interested in seeing what kind of treasures could be found, so we
just made a list of what we were interested in and made an offer.
Some of the items we found included: vintage wall clocks, pyrex
dishes, assorted milk glass pieces, a pair of hobnail lamps, a corner
pantry with glass front doors, misc framed art, cast iron stand
(possibly for an ashtray), set of green vintage drinking glasses and
matching pitcher, pink depression glass cake stand and other misc glass
pieces. There were a couple more furniture pieces we might be
interested in but can't make a good offer until we can move them and
confirm the condition is ok. There was also some closets I couldn't
check because there was so much stuff in the floor, so there could be
more treasure, it will just take getting in there with the proper shoes
and enough time to be more thorough!
As we were getting ready to leave his wife showed up. She is
supposed to be checking out the items on our list and getting back with
us. We didn't' get to leave with anything but hope to be hearing from
them soon. There was also a shed that supposedly has more treasure in
it. I would love to be able to get in that shed! We were very happy
that they allowed us to look around.
If you have an old house or barn or shed that might have some hidden
treasure in it and would like to make some cash, send me an email, we
would love to come by!
Have a great day!
Casey
