The blog is back!

It didn't really go anywhere, we've just been crazy busy since the last post.  Let me do a quick catch up since July...

We relocated our Midtown booth for the 3rd time.  Now we are permanently in the back at "Midtown Village".  We love our new bigger space and since the rest of the finish out back there is almost done, many more quality vendors have joined us.  We even grabbed up the space directly across from where we are so basically we have 2 booths at Midtown now.

We also took on space at Fayetteville Funky Yard sale and sales have been great.  We hope to expand further in December.

MVA is at White Elephant Emporium!

Saturday we moved into our new booth at the White Elephant Emporium.  It was a lot of fun but also a lot of work.  I would like to send out a big hug and thank you to Dan and Jim. I would probably still be there working if it wasn't for their help.  So thanks again!!

This was my first experience at setting up a booth.  For anyone interested, my advise is do lots of planning ahead!  For example, we found a great wooden shelf at Potters House that measured 7' long and about 4'tall for the back wall of the booth.

I set up the shelf at the house Friday night and figured out all the glassware arrangement and snapped a photo on my iPhone.

Then on Saturday when we put the shelf in the booth, as we unwrapped the glassware, I just looked at the photo and knew exactly where to put each piece.  What I didn't want to have happen was to be arranging everything on the shelf 100 different ways during set up.  Dan was even able to help put items on the shelf by looking at the picture and everything made it to it's correct spot and none of my OCD had to come out!!

The coolest part of the day was having folks "ohh & ahh" at the items in the booth as we were setting up.  We even sold 3 things before we were done.  The space next to us was vacant, so we used it as a staging area.  We sold one of our most expensive pieces out of the staging area before it even made it into the booth!  It made me very happy because once we got the booth all put together, it was apparent that we wouldn't have had room for it anyway!

Jim and I checked back on the booth Sunday afternoon and another small piece had sold.  I guess we did a good job of picking and staging.  I hope the good sales continue!

So if you're in South Fayetteville and are looking for a bargain, come check us out at the White Elephant.  They are located on MLK kind of catty corner and across the street from Zaxby's. Our booth is downstairs and it has a big MVA sign in it.  Hope to see you there!

White Elephant Emporium!

Modern Vintage Antiquing will be setting up a booth at the White Elephant Emporium (WEE).
We are so excited to have a new home for some of our treasures.  We have been looking for a permanent booth location and WEE is a great choice!  They are located at 1561 W. MLK BLVD (6th St) in Fayetteville.  We met with Gregory last night and once some booth swapping and rearranging happens, we will be ready to move in.  We will be in the downstairs area and will post photos as soon as the booth is up and ready.

After our talk with Gregory, we walked around admiring some of the treasures they had in the shop.

If you are interested in being a vendor, give them a call at 479-249-6093 and check them out on Facebook at this link:

Long Weekend, Lots of Treasures!

Good Morning! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I took off work on Thursday and Friday for Spring Break.  If your reading this from NWA you know there wasn't much spring around these past few days.  It snowed Thursday and Sunday.  I hope spring gets here soon!
So Thursday before the snow started falling, Jim and I took a trip down to Prairie Grove.  Our first stop was at Timeless Treasures at 405 N. Pittman.  This was our first visit here.  Nothing was priced, so we had the pleasure of negoatiating with Vencient on all the items we were interested in.  We picked up a nice set of Federal Glass mugs and some great old wooden brackets that we are going to use to make a door shelf.

When we left Timeless Treasures, we went down to The Locals on Buchanan.  This shop had some great Shabby Chic booths!
Here's their FACEBOOK page!

Daisy's & Olives was our last stop in Prairie Grove.
Here they are on FACEBOOK!

Friday night we went to Ken's Auction in Springdale.  I have never in my life seen so many Coca Cola products in one location.  They had so much stuff they had tables stacked on top of tables to display it all.  It was awesome!  We arrived at 4:00 for the preview and didn't leave till after midnight.  It was really fun getting to see all of those authentic Coca Cola items.  We picked up a couple Coca Cola items and some other treasures!  We picked up this vintage flour sifter and cute blue and pink dishes.

We also got this cut glass cream and sugar set and this cute Bambi powder box.  The box was manufactured by the Jeannette Glass Co. during the 1930's  to 50's in five different designs - deer, scotty dog, elephant, donkey and poodle. They were also manufactured in different colored glass - clear, iridescent gold and pink.

We also picked up this egg plate, Coca Cola mirror and red army foot locker.

Sunday we went to Don Guthery's at their new location in Springdale.  It is a great new facility.  We didn't buy anything but we were happy we stopped by to check out their great new location.

Hope your weekend was great and that you got to see a little bit of spring!
XOXO

Exciting night at Cornerstone Auctions!

Tuesday night was a great night at Cornerstone Auctions!  We came home with some great treasures!  The steal of the night has to be this vintage green Moon and Star kitchen canister set.  I have seen single pieces of this in flea markets all over town but I have never seen a full set.  There were a couple chips around the lids but when the lids are on, you can't see them.  I paid $9.00 for the set and I think I can resell it for $40.

We also picked up a vintage California pottery ash tray for $2.00 and an old pencil sharpener for $5.00.  I haven't done any research on the sharpener yet so I'm not sure it's value.

We bough 4 framed Homestead prints by Currier & Ives.  They don't have glass in them so there is some aging on the prints but they are very nice.  We paid $7.00 for them.

Cornerstone holds auctions each Tuesday night at their new place at 6PM.  Check out our Auctions and Events tab for all the weekly auction listing details and locations.

Have a great Thursday!

Grandma's Cupboard

Once a week Jim and I take a meal over to my grandparents house after work to eat dinner with them and visit.  This week we had pork tenderloin, peas, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes and sweet ice tea.  It was great!

After dinner we were sharing some of our auction experiences with them and talking about collections and antiques.  My grandmother has collected cows for years.  As I think back, she started around 1990, so that's been about 23 years now.  She would buy any and everything she found that had a cow on it and over the years, the collection grew and grew.  Most items have been packed away now but a few pieces (probably 50 or so!) still remain in her dining room and kitchen.  I started looking around at the collection after dinner and noticed a couple S&P sets were stamped "Japan" on the bottom.  Others were not marked but you could tell they were old.  They intrigued me so I started doing some research online.  I found a couple of her sets selling on ebay and etsy from $4.99-$20.00.

I also started looking at some of the china and other glassware she had in her cabinets and noticed some other items of value.   She had a place setting for 12 of a set of Windsor Rose Fine China from Japan, large plates, cups and two sizes of saucers.  I found the small saucers on etsy selling for $3.99 each.

She also had some nice Pyrex bowls and one with no markings that I'm still trying to identify.  Mom thinks it's Anchor Hocking but I'm not 100% sure.  Hopefully I can identify it soon.

As we were getting ready to leave, my grandfather handed me some bags full of linens and table cloths from a closet he was cleaning out. Folded up between two old plastic table cloths was 3 Belgian Lace Cocktail Napkins.  I found a set of 8 selling on ebay for $45.00. I'm sure she didn't even know they were in there!

I'm not planning on selling any of my grandmothers items, but it's fun to research them with her. And it was very important to tell my grandfather not to throw away anything without letting me see it first!!

Happy Hunting!

Friday Night Auction Action...Stewart & Ken's

Friday night we went to two auctions...we started off in Avoca at Stewart's Auction on Hwy 62.  This was our first visit to Stewart's Auction.  We arrived at 5PM to preview and the auction started at 6PM.  Jeromy Stewart was the auctioneer and kept a quick pace going which is always much appreciated.  The auction house was clean, served good refreshments and offered a comfortable seating area with no bad seat in the house.  Now for the fun part....the treasures we found:
We picked up two awesome old school house desks.  One was a basic square shape in a distressed greenish blue color and the other was a cream color with decorative legs. I found a similar one to the greenish one selling on Polyvore for $125.00.  http://www.polyvore.com/olde_good_things_small_vintage/thing?id=18923875  We picked up both desks for $12.50 each. We are so excited about these desks! A friend and definitely one of our favorite local furniture restoration experts will be working her magic on these, we can't wait to show you the finished product! (And even where you can pick them up yourself!)

We also got a nice wooden 5-drawer chest of drawers for $60.00.  It was a little more than I wanted to pay but all the older real wooden furniture was going pretty high.  It ended up being a great bargain, compared to some of the other chest of drawers that sold for over $100.  The piece was in really good shape and will be a breeze to repaint.
The last item we got was a maple step end table with a small drawer.  I'm always drawn to the step end tables, probably because my grandmother has always had these in her house.  We paid $20.00 for the table.  I found a similar one on Krrb.com for $100. http://krrb.com/posts/14614-mersman-vintage-step-end-table-with-drawer

We left there around 9PM and headed to Springdale to Ken's Auction.  Ken is located on Spring Street in downtown Springdale.  Ken's is one of our favorite auctions but only stuck around for about 15 minutes.  He always has a nice selection of antiques, furniture, art, jewelry and misc. house hold items.  We didn't purchase anything at Ken's because my son (and most patient auction sidekick), Tyler was spent.  We'll be sure to catch his auction next week.  Ken's next auction is next Friday night and I'm sure he'll have some great items.
Check our "Auctions & Events" tab for up to date auctions announcements for the Northwest Arkansas area. Hopefully we'll see you there!

Also, we are getting our facebook up and going! Please come check us out and tell your friends about us!

Thanks for reading!

Welcome!
Welcome to the first official post for Modern Vintage Antiquing!  Ashley and I have been working hard to bring you an awesome site with all the up to date information you need for antiquing in beautiful Northwest Arkansas.

If you haven't yet, check out the "Where to Shop" and "Auctions & Events" tabs.  The "Where to Shop" tab is a comprehensive directory of great shops in NWA that have been categorized by the type of items they sell.  For instance, if you are looking for a chalk painted coffee table, you will want to look in the Shabby Chic category.  If you are looking for depression glass, take a look at the shops listed under Fleatique.  Or, if you are looking for mismatched glass ware for a Pinterst project, check out the True Thrift section.  Each store has been recently visited and categorized so that you can go straight to the type of store for the items you want!  I'm currently working on another 30+ shops that need to be visited, then they too can be added to the categories.

The "Auctions and Events" tab is also complete, for now!  I will be updating this tab weekly with the upcoming events and auctions, pertaining to the blog.  Soon I'll be doing a blog post on attending auctions.  I know lots of people who are interested, but have never gone, and seem to be a little intimidated by them.  I'll show you the ropes and you'll be a seasoned auction goer in no time!

I'll be working on the 'Map" tab soon as well.  This is going to be a great resource for folks who want to take a day and visit numerous shops.  They will be laid out on a map with the shop's address and hours.

Thanks again for visiting and check back often.  Ashley is working hard on blog coding/linking and technical type stuff and I'm writing the content.  Together we hope to provide you with a great shop guide, lots of tips and maybe help you add to or start a new collection.

Thanks!
Casey
